Today is my husbands bday. We went to lunch and then came home to the kids with all their homemade cards. It was great, they were so happy to see him open the cards. We usually have cake and ice cream, but opted out since our youngest son is having some asthma problems and sugar just aggravates it.
We were pretty tired so we took a nap on the couch. Perfect bday if you ask me. When we woke up it was evening time which meant I needed to go run. I ask my honey if he would like to tag along, just to get him out of the house and maybe watch a bball game while I ran. To my surprise he came with me. He hung out with our friend and helped clean some stuff and then they played some arcade games.
My run was really good tonight. Watched cloudy with a chance of meatballs and kept a pace of 5.2. I finished my 5k in 37.17 and felt strong enough to keep going, so on I went. I got to mile 4 at 47.50 with 2 min of walking at a pace of 3, I was getting tired so I decided to walk a lil bit. I cooled down for about 5 min.
Tonight was a bit of a challenge as well, regarding the kids. My oldest daughter was in a MOOD! She had been complaining all day and nothing I said or did was good enough. Blah! The tween years are crazy!! I think she called me every five minutes during my run to see if I was done or to give us an update on what they were doing. I swear she is going to drive me crazy.
I'm convinced I will never have a nice quiet workout, but it's okay, just reminds me I have a family who loves me and I definitely love them.
So my words of advice are to just keep at it. Despite the whining and constant bugging from kids, set the example and eventually it will stop and they'll want to be like you. I'm grateful to my mom, who always took us running with her. She would go to the high school and run around the track while we played in the middle. She could always keep an eye on us, then eventually as we got older we would run with her. My dad would also take me running on the weekends, it was a great way for us to bond.
