It's 2011, a new year, time to set goals and finish them. I decided to do a Half Ironman! Crazy? I know, but should I just sit around, eat cookies, and watch tv all day? Should I just watch the sports reels and think, "wow, they are so inspiring, I wish I could do that!". I can and so can everyone else. Want to loose that baby weight, then get off your butt and do it! My inspiration came from one of my younger sisters, who completed a full Ironman. It was amazing to watch her and hundreds of other people accomplish such a great task. I was pregnant with my 6th child at the time and thought as soon as I have our daughter I will get in shape and train for a Tri.
A few months after having our daughter, a friend of mine asked if I would like to participate in a sprint Tri she and her husband would be doing at the end of the summer. At first I thought, hello, I just had a baby! I had complications after childbirth and lost a lot of blood. I was still recouping from all that. Plus no bike, which would be super expensive, so I probably couldn't do it. Then I just went online and signed up! Now, I was committed, there was no turning back. A few days on craigslist and I found a bike that fit me. Three months later, with the help of a great group of cycling guys/gal, lots of swimming and running, I finished my 1st race.
I had a great support system at home. My brilliant husband watched the kids and gave me the encouragement I needed when I was getting negative. My kids were great and helped with the younger kids. I even took my kids running and swimming with me. My son was definitely showing me up during the runs! This was a family effort and so it will be this year. My kids want to do their 1st Tri this year too.
So enough already find a race, sign up for it and let's get started! Stop watching Biggest Loser and BE the Biggest Loser. If I can do it with a family, so can you.
Chris
